Keep Wimberley Beautiful: Good Clean Fun

Our Roots: How KWB Came to Be

The story of Keep Wimberley Beautiful began in the early 1990s, when a small group of local residents gathered over coffee at Cypress Creek Café. As they chatted and looked out over the town square, they noticed weeds sprouting from the curbs and litter accumulating throughout the area. With no local government—since Wimberley was not yet an incorporated city—they realized that if anything was going to change, it would have to start with them. That very day, they walked outside and began pulling weeds and picking up trash by hand.

The group’s casual cleanup efforts quickly evolved into a committed routine. They returned each morning, equipped with gloves, bags, and tools, to restore pride and beauty to the heart of the community. Soon after, they discovered Keep Texas Beautiful, a statewide organization that shared their mission. Inspired by this larger movement, the group joined forces with the nonprofit and officially established Keep Wimberley Beautiful as a 501(c)(3) organization with elected officers, bylaws, and a dedicated budget.

Since then, the organization has grown in both reach and impact. It has been recognized with three Keep Texas Beautiful awards, which provided funding for transformative beautification projects around town. Notable accomplishments include the construction of the rock wall along RR 12 in front of the Senior Citizens Building, later enhanced with a mural by local artist Sharon Carter. What began as a spontaneous act of care has become a lasting movement, dedicated to preserving the charm and natural beauty of Wimberley for generations to come!
